Review on πŸ—ΊοΈ Garmin Portable Friction Mount: Convenient Frustration-Free Packaging for Easy Use by Jacob Diego

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for short term portable use, may move on sudden stops

I ordered this mount to replace the suction cup/adhesive mount that came with my GPS and two months later on a 90 degree day Mounted it fell off my windshield. I tested this last weekend during an hour and a half of city and highway driving and the mount stayed in place during that time. Pros: Portable, easy to use, and can be moved around the dashboard depending on the sunlight exposure. Cons: I removed the GPS module but rode with the mount installed to see how well it stayed in place. Yesterday I had to brake hard at 40 km/h and the mount flew off the windshield. At this speed it didn't damage the windshield but it's a risk and it could damage the GPS. Since the dashboard slopes backwards toward the windshield, it's more likely to hit the windshield than the passenger, but the risk is there. I was disappointed that Garmin did not include any instructions or warnings with this article. A sudden stop risk warning should be included along with a recommendation not to have it on the dash when not in use. I'd also like to see instructions on how to attach and secure the arm to the beanbag because I'm not sure why the arm detaches in the first place. I would like a mount that I can trust to hold the GPS in place. I bought the Square Jellyfish Jelly Grip Auto Fan Mount based on the reviews at the same time, but haven't tried it yet.
