Buy this - plus the seller.

I first ordered this model from another supplier. It arrived with a few scratches, instructions were on DVD and looked like it had just been used. Purchased to convert VHS tapes to DVD. Lasted 3 copies and kind of died. I sent it back and the seller refunded my money. I ordered the same from this seller based on their 100% rating. The unit was well packaged, looked like new, came with a printed (50+ pages) manual, HDMI cable and worked great. I've reburned about 50 DVDs from VHS tapes with no problems. I also figured out how to use a Smart TV and use Direct TV. I can't see the program I'm watching can't duplicate it, but I can burn it to the DirectTV Genie and then copy it from the Genie to a DVD burner. The trick is to have a 10-pin Direct TV Genie connector and an HDMI splitter. Direct TV says this isn't possible, but every one of their service and tech support knows how to set it up. I did it myself but it took me a while to figure it out. Just call Direct TV and tell them you need a support agent to get you out. My absolute recommendation for this manufacturer. They stand behind their product and it's worth the extra money to get a device that's clean, looks brand new and "really works". The printed manual was also a plus. It's something of a complete device with many functions - you need an instruction manual. It's available online, but having a printed copy was a huge plus. Image quality is ok. A lot of my tapes are 15-20 years old, that explains it. Also, Direct TV isn't meant to be copied, so don't expect the same clear picture. I mainly burn sporting events to DVD with Direct TV Genie to watch over and over again. So perfect quality is not as important to me as watching incredible sports games over and over again. Panasonic had an excellent reputation for making good VCRs in the '90s and early '90s and it didn't disappoint. It was one of the last built in 95-96. to look at her again and again. So perfect quality is not so important to me, like to watch incredible sports games over and over again.
