I purchased this update to replace a Sparc based ReadyNAS NV+ that is a few years old. The old NAS started to have problems, filled up to 6 TB (4x2 TB, RAID) and was slow. It's *much* faster, and I'm running a Plex server directly on the NAS rather than on a separate computer. I also included a 6TB drive, although I believe this unit contains 4 x 8TB drives. The device is far from perfect; The applications that can be installed are mixed: some require ActiveX (Windows) to run and some don't work at all, or at least are useless. However, Plex and Transmission work well, and the device is fast enough that Gigabit Ethernet really makes a difference. Considering I was able to decommission my standalone Plex server, speed it up, and increase the maximum storage capacity, I'm very happy with this unit, although I think it's $500 overpriced without storage.
