I have 2 steps from my garage to my house. According to the building code in our area, the rail is not required. Quite a few visitors, however, need rail support. It worked great. I had to do a little test with a small nail to find exactly where the stud was (the stud finder was nearby) and then install it with 3.5" black pre-drilled screws. Worked great. Two more quick moments. This is a durable quality track that I would only mount to a hard surface such as studs, brick or concrete. It's primed, I painted it black. Very nice and easily painted with commercial rust resistant spray paint. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked. Checking the altitude code to be set also ensures efficient use (and the code as well, if applicable).
