Sturdy and sturdy support for graphic artists

When Apple introduced the iPad Pro 12.9 and the Apple Pen, they invaded the sparse territory of touchscreen graphic tablets to place the Apple IOS logo at the top of the screen . a bunch, and they've done it for less than half the starting price of its only serious competitor. Add the Astropad app and you can use Photoshop on your Mac with an iPad as a fully interactive drawing surface. What Apple hasn't provided is a working stand, and that's important as any high-end graphics tablet can be used to its best. Permission means a solid surface is needed that won't move when someone fiddles with the details. Consider Elevation Lab's multi-pound creation: It holds an iPad at one of four angles, from nearly horizontal to about 45 degrees. Changing the angle is accomplished by removing the iPad and selecting one of three fixed-height feet. The base is made of steel, the legs are made of durable plastic impregnated with nylon. The base and bottom edge are covered in some kind of soft, rubber-like material that provides grip to the iPad and prevents scratches. While the iPad can be moved around on the base, this requires a conscious effort and will never happen when painting. That's all. For a small additional fee, they add an iPad-width silicone palm rest and a heavy, rubbery, non-rechargeable Apple Pencil stand. Both work well and have a "sticky" micromesh suction on the bottom. I removed the protective plastic from the bottom of the pen holder as it is not as sturdy as I would like without being sticky. It can be moved repeatedly without losing stickiness. I left the palm rest closed because it's quite heavy and doesn't tend to slip. I use it in several positions on my desk. Elevation Labs sells the pen tray separately, but I didn't find the palm rest as a separate item on their website. However, it appears to be very durable and I expect it to last for years with proper care. In use I have found that the stand works exactly as promised. While it's clearly designed for the 12.9 model when used horizontally, it works well in vertical mode, with about 1/3 of the iPad extending off the top of the stand. A smaller iPad will also work as the entire surface of the stand has a protective coating. Best Feature: Strong gravity connection between iPad and table: it doesn't wobble. Although it fits in the laptop compartment of a backpack or bag, it was designed by Elevation Labs for use on a desk: it's too heavy to use on your lap (though you can always take your iPad off the stand - it is not mechanically secured).
