Finally a wired adapter that works with my Insignia Roku TV

There's a Roku TV that's meant to be wireless only (why can't they include an RJ45 port anyway?). Even with a wireless router right behind it, there were still issues with adaptive streaming sites changing the resolution of the streams multiple times during playback. Searched the Roku forums and found the older Belkin adapter mentioned, but it's not available and lists a replacement that didn't work for me. A while ago my son bought an HDE adapter for his Wii (and didn't tell me about it) so I tried it and it worked with my TV. so I have one too. I don't know if it was just defective but the new one didn't work on my TV or Wii or even my laptop so I returned it. I'm still searching because I've proved to myself that something can work. Finally found this brand mentioned as working after further searching although the seller says it is not. At that point, for $12, I realized what the heck. And it worked. When other adapters didn't work, I tried everything: factory reset, unplugging and plugging power again, USB connector, Cat 6 cable, nothing. With this adapter, once installed, all I had to do was unplug the power cord, plug it back in, turn it on, and it worked. Booting is a bit slower, but having a working wired connection with no more adaptive streaming wobbles is pretty minor. Netflix used to think I was only getting 4Mbps on a good day, but then that number tripled (according to a test of their app). Using another standalone speed test app, I'm currently getting the speed down to 54Mbps (out of a possible 60). Edit, 6 weeks later, still using it every day, still works fine except for one instance where it didn't work. Connect after turning it on, but I just turned it off again and restarted and everything has been fine ever since.

Pros
  • Network Adapter
Cons
  • Sad Hardware
