They are needed for a large lathe
I recently replaced a small lathe with a 1" x 8 dpi drive spindle with a new lathe with a 1 1/4" x 8 dpi spindle. The tool allows me to use my old small to medium sized lathe tools and jigs. I have a collection of "junk blocks" that I cropped down to 1 x 8 dpi. With this tool I can continue to use them. Live End" with Morse #2 taper on one end and 1" x 8 dpi on the other. With this tool and adapter I can often support my work from both sides. I like doing this because I'm such an inexperienced wood turner and the bars don't scatter the work piece all over the room.
