Works accurately on a Craftsman 12 " lathe with a Nova chuck

I have this adapter for a Nova G3 1" chuck (Rockler P/N 69733: Bowl Turning Kit and chuck) ) onto an old 12" x 48" Craftsman lathe with a 3/4" spindle. It fits the lathe spindle well, fits snugly on the spindle sleeve and the chuck works fine. A simple but effective solution.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Do not buy if you want a quality part

Item is not correct and wobbles, I cannot turn on a lathe safely or accurately with this item. One of three I bought from Revain, each vendor had different stock photos but the part is from the same manufacturer. I found a website that supplies a similar part with high accuracy. Do not buy this if you want quality accuracy.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Works great with My Shopsmith

This adapter is well designed and precision machined to adapt a Shopsmith 5/8" spindle to a standard 1" 8 TPI lathe spindle. It fitted my Shopsmith Mark 5 (an old model from 1954) and fitted perfectly. On the other hand, it fits perfectly with the Teknatool lathe chuck I bought to go with it. The adapter is milled from a solid block of steel and is very well made.

Some cartridges don't fit

I bought two of these cartridges at different times. Both had machining that prevented some cartridges that didn't have a large recess from fitting the shoulder. Part of the male thread near the shoulder has not been countersunk or cut. I had to create a specially ground tool to cut this area by turning it on a lathe. The user should not do this!

They are needed for a large lathe

I recently replaced a small lathe with a 1" x 8 dpi drive spindle with a new lathe with a 1 1/4" x 8 dpi spindle. The tool allows me to use my old small to medium sized lathe tools and jigs. I have a collection of "junk blocks" that I cropped down to 1 x 8 dpi. With this tool I can continue to use them. Live End" with Morse #2 taper on one end and 1" x 8 dpi on the other. With this tool and adapter I can often support my work from both sides. I like doing this because I'm such an inexperienced…

Rough but functional

The adapter is quite rough, with very rough flat surfaces on the outside and poor carving on the inside. However, this is true enough, or at least true enough for wood turning. I use it to adapt my new lathe's 1-1/4x8 spindle to my Nova G3 chuck, which has 1"x8 holes and threads and is fine for the job. The only problematic omission is the lack of one Threaded hole for a set screw to attach to the spindle Without this it's dangerous to run the lathe backwards and it can even be dangerous to…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Updates

I turned it on, closed the shopsmith and while it was spinning the lathe chuck spun off the adapter . Luckily I had a hockey puck in the jaws of the chuck and when the chuck came loose the hockey puck kept the chuck from flying out because the puck was pressing against the bit I had in place as the chuck was unwound. If it flew, its weight could easily kill or maim me or anyone nearby. I believe that with his power he would easily go through a wooden wall and damage everything on the other…
