This strainer has a fine mesh assembly attached to a curved rim. Unlike most filters, this one has a hook that is about 1.5 inches long from the edge to the longest part of the hook. This longer hook allows the filter to fit into larger pots and bowls, allowing for hands-free sifting. The filter itself is 5.25 inches in diameter at the widest point of the top of the filter. The depth of the filter is approximately 2.25 inches at the deepest part of the filter. I'm sure it can easily strain food larger than 2 cups. The filter function is very good. It quickly binds almost all unwanted liquid from food. I've never been a shaker because of the potential kitchen disasters that usually happen with manual filters. I recommend this strainer for efficient, quick and convenient straining.
