Despite recent reviews that they got new keys and not new mugs to recode, I've decided to just reuse the old mugs when needed. The instruction videos I watched were for cylinders with large toggle switches and springs, so I was a little intimidated to see how tiny mine were. I fixed the electronics a bit and have pretty good dexterity and patience so I went ahead undaunted. A couple of toggle switches were quite difficult to get out of the slots in the cylinder, but I ended up pulling them all out with a variety of electronic repair tweezers and a toothpick I had on hand. I only had to reuse 2 old mug numbers. The metal cover that holds everything together inside the lock is carefully and deftly removed without damaging it or bending the springs. And it takes a steady hand to align all the springs when folding the lid back. But I got it. This video. [.] shows the procedure for changing the key for this cylinder type. After assembly, the key turned. Success! Unfortunately, as soon as I put the cylinder back in the car, completed the relearn procedure, and started it, the horrible safety light stayed on. :-( My car still starts, but I suppose next time I'll have to change the ignition switch.
