Kohler GP1016515 Valve - Perfect for Kohler K-10412 Single Lever Mixer

This valve kit was just what we needed to stop the leak in our 2.5 year old Kohler K-10412 Single Lever Mixer (Brushed Nickel). The leak started about a week ago and got worse every day, and two days ago it practically turned into a river. The parts arrived yesterday and this morning we fixed the leak with the help of our 14 year old son. The job took about 20 minutes total (think we could do it in 10 minutes next time) and we also included the o-rings and sleeve bearings (Kohler GP30420 Kitchen Faucet O-ring Kit with bearings, o-rings and lube) replaced and friction ring (KOHLER 1005201 friction disc) in progress. Here's what we did to replace the valve; If you're looking for steps to replace all of the above, follow the o-ring kit link for a more detailed work list: * Shut off the water supply to the sink. * Install drain plugs on both sides of the sink. , just to make sure nothing accidentally ends up in the sewers. *Using a small flathead screwdriver, remove the plug from the back of the handle to gain access to the handle setscrew *Use a small hex key (hex key) to loosen the setscrew and then remove the handle *Unscrewed (manually) the cap over the valve (took a little to start "umf" but then easy) * Use a pipe wrench to loosen the mounting nut holding the valve in place, then unscrew and remove it by hand * Removes the old valve; The gaskets on the underside of the valve got stuck in the faucet so we had to clean it out* The valve stem sits in a plastic retainer mounted in the handle; We replaced the old bracket with the one that came with the valve*. Use soap and Scotch-Brite to clean inside of handle and faucet.* Install new valve block and align pins on valve with holes inside faucet for perfect fit* Mounting nut cleaned and replaced; hand tightened, then used a pipe wrench to make the final 1/4 turn* Cleaned the valve cover then screwed it down (by hand)* Placed the handle back on top of the valve and aligned the valve stem with the new plastic retainer installed* Reinstall the set screw and hand tighten with a hex wrench until it stops * Replace the plug blocking access to the set screw * Remove the drain plugs * Turn the water back on. looking for leaks. turned on the faucet and checked the flow of hot and cold water. moved the spout, no leaks. Like new. Excellent. It was much nicer to spend $20 instead of $200 on a new device. If you have the same problem and have confirmed that these parts work for your device, we highly recommend them.
