Review on Backcountry Access Communication System Radios by Steve Brethorst

Fragile and don't work in the cold.

Bought for snowmobiling and they didn't even last a few months. One never worked well and stopped transmitting audio as soon as it got very cold (20 degrees Fahrenheit). The only way to fix this is to take the battery out and put the battery back in. Did this so many times throughout the day that eventually the connector for the cable that goes between the main radio and the mic/speakers broke. Their version 2 is already out and I would ONLY buy version #2 if you are interested in these types of radios. I have refused to buy this brand again because I lost $279 on the first pair, but it looks like BCA has eliminated the flimsy cable connector by completely redesigning version 2. I bought version 2 this winter and they seem to be working for the first time. A few weeks. The design is definitely better. Again, don't buy these, they're rubbish. Buy version 2 instead.
