Review on BraceAbility Thumb Splint: Immobilize & Stabilize Thumb Joints for Arthritis, Trigger Thumb, Tendonitis & Sprain Relief - Small Right by Kelvin Hernandez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Doesn't fix CMC/saddle connection

As I'm between sizes I ordered two. None of them helped immobilize my CMC joint. With a smaller clamp that fit me like a glove (fits really well!), I was still able to move my thumb back and forth about 1-1/2 inches (tight with the Velcro, but at an acceptable level). ). If the velcro was tightened to severe discomfort, my thumb could become immobilized so that it could only move back and forth about 1/2 inch. But no one, including me, could ever withstand that tension on the bracelet. In theory, however, I like this product because it's the only thumb brace that lets you get your hands wet with ease. The materials are excellent. I think the manufacturer needs to make another version with a longer cuff, say two inches longer, with a second velcro strap. It really stabilizes the thumb and makes this three star product a five star winner. A few points: 1) refer to Revain's size chart in the picture. The size chart in the enclosed brochure is incorrect. You can even go to the BraceAbility website and make sure they match what's showing on Revain. 2) If you are between sizes, go for the larger size as it will give you some wiggle room on where the tip of your thumb comes out. You can then line the inner circumference of the orthotic thumb with a narrow strip of moleskin to avoid chafing. (I had some chafing just below the thumb/interphalangeal joint on the same side of the thumb as the thumbnail). By the looks of it, this brace protects your thumb from blunt force, prevents thumb hyperextension, and reminds you not to use your injured hand. That's not enough for me because I admire the concept, design and choice of materials.
