Worked perfectly for the first 48 hours and adjusted my 17 year old thermostat to 0.5°F in the 77-80°F range. On the 3rd day the water temperature in the aquarium was 131F, on the 4th day it was 277F. Water boils at 212F and the water in my tank (to my unexperienced eye) still appeared to be liquid. I'm asking for a replacement and will update the review if it works better, but I don't have high hopes. UPDATE: After using Thermometer #2 for 4 weeks I am increasing it from 1 to 4 stars. No problems so far, very stable. I hope it lasts! UPDATE March 2021: After almost 3 years the battery died so I replaced it. Now it does the same thing as the first thermometer and tells me my 79F water is 117-139F so a downgrade to 3 stars. I'm considering trying a new thermometer and not replacing it with the same one.
