Review on 🌑️ Hanna Instruments HI98128 Temperature Testing Device by Michael Welborn

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very poor design for a critical function

I used HI 98121 and now HI 98128. The 98121 I bought was very slow. It wasn't until I bought and started using the 98128 that I realized just how fast it had to be. The two big downsides to Hanna are that their support team won't necessarily give you the right answer to every question, and the fact that the design of the cap makes it very difficult to keep the pH probe wet all the time . The cap is not liquid tight. So if you put a few drops of storage solution in, the storage solution will spill out unless you keep the meter upright at all times. Also, this is a very small tank that needs constant refilling. Very poor design for a critical function. If you can get a good working meter and wet the probe with the storage solution, it works very well. The gauge is advertised as waterproof, but the support person told me not to submerge it to a depth of 18 inches, where you should take a water sample. I can say that although he said I used the 98121 for about 6-7 years before the seals failed, I always submerged it at least 18 inches and sometimes up to 36 inches deep. In general it is much easier to keep the pH constant. with a meter, not a drop test. It measures to 2 decimal places, so you can see which direction your pH is heading before it spirals out of control. The drop tests are graded in whole numbers of 2 points, so: 70, 72, 74, 76 etc. Using a pH meter has made it much easier to keep my pool clean and balanced.

Pros
  • Two level LCD display Current measurement and current temperature at the same time
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
