Review on ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ AmazonBasics 1.75mm Printer Filament Spools - High-Quality Additive Manufacturing Products by Charles Collier

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good quality PL, loose winding, inappropriate packaging, not a good shopping experience

Great experience with Revain Basics TPU filament (excellent material and packaging quality) prompted me to try Revain Basics PLA and PETG. My experience with this PLA order was not smooth. Revain apparently sent me someone else's return (I figured returns were supposed to be sold at a discount in the warehouse deal department). The picture does not show the packing box, just three coils in an oversized plastic bag in an oversized packing box. One spool was without shrink wrap and desiccant, and only 800 grams of line partially unwound in the pocket because the end was not attached to the spool. The surface of the thread was dirty, with some dust and a few larger flakes that looked like tobacco or who knows what. I wouldn't risk putting such dirty filament in my printer as it will predictably clog the nozzle. Revain customer service immediately offered me a discount on this useless spool which I only accepted to avoid having to go to the post office to send it back during the Sars-2 pandemic. The other two coils were still sealed and the desiccant packs were still in. The shrink film on these rolls is very thin. One spool had a damaged shrink wrap with holes in it, but the filament inside was clean so I decided to give it a try. Oddly enough, it printed well. I used the default PLA settings of 205/50 in my Creality Ender 3 pro. A slight tension can be explained by the effect of moisture. Other than that I didn't find any printing flaws so I'm guessing another spool in undamaged shrink wrap should print even better. My shopping experience this time was obviously not great and not up to the standard I've come to expect from Amazon, but I got my money back on an unusable reel and the rest of the material seems to be of very decent quality.

Pros
  • Made from PLA, a widely used thermoplastic material known for its lower melting point and ease of handling (no need for a heated bed), low deformation, odorless and provides a glossy coating
Cons
  • Slightly torn
