Review on πŸ“· Leica Summicron-T 011-081 23mm f/2 ASPH Lens by Claire Soto

Fixed with variable aperture. Hm?

The only lens I've used on the T (don't get me started on that crappy 18-55). Very sharp, but it's hampered by the T's poor autofocus, and it's not really an f2. As you get closer to the subject, the camera automatically stops at f/2.8. This should be the first variable aperture fix I've ever heard of. I'd be surprised to know that Leica couldn't design a lens that was sharp enough wide open when you're up close, so they must have done it to save on costs. Pretty silly considering that lens alone costs as much as a Fuji mirrorless camera plus lens. Finally, unless you want a red dot, this lens and camera isn't worth the high price of admission. Instead, I have a Sony A7 and my pictures are significantly better, and your money goes a lot further (and it requires M lenses in their native format, which is fantastic). The entire T-System is Leica's SMH moment, which consistently produces inferior mirrorless cameras. It's surprising that they don't just make a better X100 considering the X100 is obviously an updated Leica clone. Do not buy this lens. Don't buy a T. If you want a Leica, buy an M. If you want a high-end mirrorless system, buy a Sony A7 or Fuji X-T1.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Low maintainability
