Review on 🔧 Robinair 15800 VacuMaster Economy Vacuum Pump - Powerful 2-Stage Pumping Action, 8 CFM, Durable Chrome Design by Lance Levatte

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great pump - READ the manual!

I've had this pump for a few months now and it works great. I only use it for degassing silicone rubber before mold making. One thing I highly recommend is to read the manual carefully before using it. I believe a lot of the negative reviews on this pump come from people who have done the exact opposite. The pump comes with 2 bottles of oil; I didn't have to use either. You fill the pump with oil until it reaches the minimum line and then run the pump until it runs smoothly. I then poured the rest of the first bottle and haven't changed or added anything since. It's a powerful pump (2-stage 8CFM) so you get some oil mist, but it's nowhere near as bad as the negative reviews say (they probably maxed out the oil before the pump was first turned on) . I use a pump in my garage and attach a 3 foot length of 0.5 inch EPDM gasoline hose to the oil outlet and direct a tiny bit of smoke out the window. I even went outside to check how much fog was coming out and saw almost transparent clouds at times; far from the "heavy fog" that some people describe. As for the vacuum, I get a solid 29 on my vacuum chamber gauge, but I also live in Pennsylvania where the elevation is about 728 feet. The higher you are, the more difficult it becomes to reach 29. Overall this is a really great pump for the price and it does exactly what I need with no issues. I'm glad I ignored the bad reviews and gave it a chance. PS What convinced me to ignore the bad reviews was the user manual. It is freely available on the Internet (see Robinair website) and it directly describes how to avoid all the problems mentioned in By following the guide, I personally avoided every problem, which is why I am convinced that these negative users will blame me not read before use. I recommend purchasing an EPDM hose, even in a well-ventilated area. 3ft cost me <$5 at my local auto parts store.
