Review on Sharpening stone Hatamoto HT0960, green by Janis Libeks ᠌

The product is no good, I won't buy it again.

1. Honestly, I'm sorry for the 2840 spent plus time and effort in 1 day for something that brought zero results. 2. Previously, another person mentioned the instructions on the Hatamoto HT0960 packaging, in the cat. it is written to sharpen at an angle of 60 °. In my case, there is also such a recommendation in 2 languages, and in my opinion this is nonsense! Japanese knives usually have a sharpening angle of 15°, European 20° 3. After it was done, the water stone was placed on a shelf to dry, then on the kitchen window sill. Even after a week+ on the "green side" of the stone where #3000 grit there are pigmentation in the form of "dark green" spots (See screenshot). P. S.: This is my first acquaintance with Hatamoto and this was not expected from a Japanese company. We counted on a level of quality at least above average, as we used to from Japanese firms earlier.

Pros
  • Not found after purchase.
Cons
  • Earlier about 8 years ago there was a water stone 1000/4000 Samura, cat. fully coped with his tasks in maintaining 2 Japanese knives (Chief and Santoku). But when he moved, he got lost and had to look for a replacement. Having purchased a Hatamoto HT0960 and the next morning soaking it for an hour in water (air bubbles did not come out of the stone from the very beginning, which is strange, because they should appear within 5 ~ 20 minutes.) We tried to sharpen the only remaining Japanese knife . After spending a whole day, from morning to sunset, nothing came of it! Considering that there is already experience with the same Japanese knife for sharpening on a previously former stone, which means there is something to compare with. Hatamoto HT0960 neither grinds nor polishes. And yet the difference between #1000 and #3000 in terms of efficiency is not noticeable at all, and perhaps even slightly opposite to the marking on the stone. Disappointed later, they bought the same Japanese knife that was for 1708 , given the price of the Hatamoto HT0960 water stone at 2840 , buying a new knife came out cheaper than a water stone for sharpening it.
