Review on 🍲 2-Quart Covered Double Boiler from Farberware's Classic Stainless Series by John Salleh

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not as good weight as the old Farberware pans

As advertised, nicely made stainless steel pot - well rounded edges also allow for drip free pouring which I miss even with very expensive brands! So far I've used it to infuse honey with herbs but nothing else so far. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the thickness of the metal no longer matches the Farberware; I have a 1.5 liter Farberware pot which I keep although the handle fell off years ago because it's a great little pot for cooking rice, reheating soups etc - I've had it for at least 30 years. At that time there were no additional floor skins, so the new ones are suitable for this. However, I am disappointed with the light weight quality of the rest of the pan (the weight is due to the extra liner at the bottom). It looks like it will bend slightly. Also, I have a liking for metal handles, and apparently Farberware continues to use phenolic resins, which are far less durable. However, for less than $30, this is a great steamer and just the right size for my kitchen. I doubt it will last as long as my other vape. I saw a complaint somewhere about not being able to use the top pan as a separate pan. In my experience I have never seen or owned a steamer that is capable of separate stove top cooking. If anyone knows one, I'd love to know! UPDATE 07/22/14: Rating changed to 3 stars. There was a problem drying the bottom pan: the sharp metal edge of the attached handle where it connects to the pan grabbed my kitchen towel and damaged it. I called Revain and they immediately sent an exchange where I also (!) had the same problem, albeit in a slightly different location. I took a small hammer and placed a piece of cloth on the spot, tapping it lightly until the tip seemed almost destroyed. Hopefully. Now I'm using it and waiting to see if the problem is really gone. However, what is clear is that the quality control of this product is far from what I expected from Farberware.
