These screw eyelets have a solid feel, perhaps a little rough on thread finish, but perfectly adequate. I can't comment on how well this stainless steel connection will resist corrosion, but I've used it to hang a kayak in my garage, so the environment should never seriously test that ability. The size of the pilot hole needed depends on the wood you will be screwing these grommets into.
