I bought this so I wouldn't have to check my temperature every morning when my wife asked "is it cold outside" when she was walking past the thermostat. I placed this sensor under our deck on the windward side of the house so there is plenty of shade and airflow and there is little chance of an inaccurate reading. As for the calibration, it shows about 2 degrees higher than the Wunderground forecast, but that's what our old outdoor thermometer read before it failed. Here you can drive a quarter mile and change the weather conditions decently. My only real complaint about this product is the length of the cord. When I turned on the drip loop and ran it through the patio board and sill of the house, there wasn't much cable left. I just cut it with a two wire thermostat wire I had laying around and connected it to the thermostat. This length of cable provided might work if your thermostat was on an outside wall and there was a perfect spot for the sensor nearby. Otherwise, plan to use an additional cable. I did not find the complete instructions for this article. or well written, but with a little common sense and a PDF manual for the thermostat it was very easy to install. Unfortunately, instead of asking about the current temperature, my wife now asks "how cold does it have to be".
