Works well but best in HVAC

I bought two of these sensors for my Honeywell top and bottom thermostats. I was hoping I could program the stats to turn off the heating cycle at night and then turn on the system to restore the set temperature without using any extra heat. It works, but only from 40 degrees. If the temperature is below 40, the auxiliary heater will turn on when the set temperature is 2 degrees above the ambient temperature. I found that when the outside temp was below 40 I had to revert to a set temperature…

Pros
  • Trial for one year
Cons
  • Available in white only

Interface module may be required

Saw this sensor when buying a new TH9421C1004 thermostat from Honeywell. Yes, the description above does not list this model as compatible, but the included instructions for the TH9421C1004 say so. Also, this sensor was listed as "frequently purchased together" with the replacement TH9421C1004 stat. It was like. To use this sensor with the TH9421C1004-Stat (and possibly others) it needs to be connected to a central control unit (mine is Honeywell "EnviraZone") using an outdoor sensor interface…

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Not automatic

The perfect addition to the system.

I bought this so I wouldn't have to check my temperature every morning when my wife asked "is it cold outside" when she was walking past the thermostat. I placed this sensor under our deck on the windward side of the house so there is plenty of shade and airflow and there is little chance of an inaccurate reading. As for the calibration, it shows about 2 degrees higher than the Wunderground forecast, but that's what our old outdoor thermometer read before it failed. Here you can drive a quarter

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
