Not useful on 2008 BMW X5 4.8L V8

Not useful on 2008 BMW X5 SUVs with V8 4.8 engine l; Firmware updates happen as often as total solar eclipses. The latest firmware 4.3 from 2017 is installed. My OBD-1200 was purchased in Fall 2018 to service a 2008 BMW X5 4.8L V8 (E70/N62TU); I changed the valve seals. The "Check Engine" condition occurred after turning on the vehicle after two months with the battery disconnected. I even called Bosch Diagnostic Systems prior to purchase and was assured it would work on the 2008 BMW X5. The OBD-1200 does not work with this car and gives an error message "CONNECTION ERROR" a minute or two after connecting the scanner to the car. Connector under the dashboard. I tested the OBD-1200 on another 2006 BMW X5 with a 6 cylinder engine and it worked great; I also tested it with a 2006 VW Touareg TDI V-10 diesel engine with no problems but when I tried another 2008 BMW X5 4.8L V8. identical "LINK ERROR" error. Bosch technical support did not help. Bosch Diagnostic Systems does not seem to have a formal procedure for reporting software/firmware errors and how to fix them. I reported a bug in November 2018 and was told that the car's wiring was faulty or I had a faulty scanner. After testing the device on several other BMW vehicles where it worked fine but failed on another 2008 BMW X5 4.8L V8, they agreed there was a problem and basically said "sorry". I insisted they contact their engineers. Nine months later with half a dozen calls and no response from product development.

Cons
  • New competitors introduced
