is what it is. cheap beginner. It was installed by a certified mechanic. Every time I start the car it makes a weird chirp/crunch. However, it starts and according to my mechanic it doesn't seem to damage anything else in the car, so rather than pay extra labor to remove it, return it etc I'll just use it until it wears out. I'm used to everyone around me flinching when I start the engine. I literally had someone in the store parking lot looking for a small animal that was stuck in my V-belt and had just let out some sort of death cry. But like I said, it works and I can get it to work. So if you're on a tight budget and just can't afford a few bucks more for better quality, or if you just want your car to sound like a dying cat for a split second when you start the engine. then cut out. Or do what I was too stupid to do on my mechanic's advice and buy a slightly higher quality starter.
