Everything you need to keep knives sharp

This isn't my first knife sharpening set, but my old set didn't have the coarse grit like this one. A 400 grit stone will save you a lot of time when shaping the blade. I've used one of these electric belt sanders before and while they certainly work, you can very easily ruin the knife with a small mistake, and they heat the knife up a lot, causing the blade to become brittle. With a water stone, the blade does not heat up and does not change the properties of the metal. The kit contains everything you need. All my stones were in perfect condition with no chips, transport scratches or anything like that. Each brick and gum base is shrink wrapped to stay safe. All my knives were in pretty bad condition so they needed a lot of work on them. I used the instructions for the first one, a large butcher knife, and got to work. Since I was shaping a brand new edge on a 12" knife, it still took a long time to remove all the metal with a 400 grit stone. Using the guide, the beveled edge is about three times wider than the original bevel. This is a very shallow angle. I took my time and went through all the rocks and I would say it could have taken two hours but I didn't do it all in one sitting. It will take much less time to maintain the blade after hard work. When I was done I had a very sharp mirror image beveled edge. When I used a leather strap (which I've never used) the edge became terribly sharp. You can almost cut yourself just looking at it. I've never seen a knife that sharp, let alone made it that sharp. When I tried to see how well he shaved the hair on his arm there was no resistance at all, the hair just fell off. I yanked a hair out of my head and was able to cut it off just by touching the edge. I've started work on the second knife, but only halfway through it so far. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. I've found that stones work better if you soak them longer than the recommended 10 minutes. If you soak them for a few hours or overnight, they will become completely soaked. This kit is everything you need to make your knives sharper than ever. Really great sentence.
