If you have a lathe you will need one of these

I bought this to level my lathe and a look at the photo shows other levels would not do the job. Husky looks a little off while Starrett reveals the real story. horses for courses. Mine came fully calibrated out of the box. To check this: Place a spirit level on a flat surface and gently rotate it until the bubble is in the center. Mark the position with something heavy like block 123. Now turn the spirit level from end to end and see if the bubble is centered. If so, you have a calibrated level. If the spirit level needs to be calibrated, you can do it directly on the surface plate in minutes, without having to level the plate. There are calibration videos on youtube.
