Good but not great.

If you are looking for a cheap lathe for crafting, this is the one for you. It has both good and bad moments. The front panel is great, IMHO. The engine set-up is also good - the revs are right. The bed had some issues from the start - a thin layer of corrosion on the bare metal that was easily fixed with tape and WD-40. The tailstock didn't move smoothly on the bed at first, I had to sand a few rough edges. I was not impressed with the quality of the two handguards. It seems that they were dipped in sand and stones and then painted. Very rough and bumpy. The tailstock and hand rest slide along the bed and are held in place with an eccentric rod and locking plate. I have found that the locknuts that hold the stop plate to the bed are easy to loosen and require frequent tightening. Annoying but doesn't disrupt the show. Maybe one day I'll replace them. I would have preferred a wheel-shaped flywheel, but the one that comes in the kit isn't bad. I've done several projects on it and they turned out well. My kids have done several projects with it and really enjoyed it. It's not a very intimidating tool - simple settings, easy to understand controls - that's why kids were drawn to it. If you're looking for a big, muscular monster to spin giant salad bowls or table legs, this isn't it. Ideal for turning small parts.
