The antenna is small and light enough to be mounted directly to a transmitter (router or mesh) using a standard connector. It provides directional WiFi signal boost. In my case, WiFi reception on the iPhone improved from very weak and intermittent to good and stable at around 120 meters (with a few trees in between) in the 20 meter target zone. The upgrade made it possible to watch movies. With a small target like mine, the vertical-horizontal position of the antenna didn't matter (it only transmits in the direction of the logo, of course); This allowed me to mount two antennas side by side on a grid with a small distance between the two antenna ports (instead of the original two omnidirectional antennas). The second antenna brought together no appreciable improvement over the single antenna and the original omnidirectional antenna. The device is indoors and has a black cover, so it gets very hot in direct sunlight; So some kind of non-metallic protective cover is likely to be required if it is mounted externally.
