Works great and you can reuse them if they work.

Bought these on a whim, mainly for the price. I put them around the house near the toilets and two weeks go by and one is already screaming. I was a little mad about it until I went to the bathroom and found water on the floor! Well at least I know they work! :) As others have said, there is no off switch. These guys scream until the batteries die. However, after enabling this, I can see how they work now. At the base is a yellow sponge (actually similar to a kitchen sponge). There is a copper plate on the sponge. As soon as water hits the sponge, it swells and the copper plate closes, causing an acoustic signal to sound. If you now carefully pull the white ring from below, the protective grid will come loose and you can remove the sponge. Just put it aside and the beeping will stop. When the sponge is half dry, put something heavy on it (I used a tin can) for a couple of days. The sponge will shrink again and you can put it back into the base and put everything back together. I did this with the left one and it works great. So they're partially reusable if you want to take the time to take them apart a bit. To be honest, this will take you two minutes. Still a good product and I would buy it again. Update: Many people have asked for reuse details, so read above and see photos below. The main thing is to carefully remove the rubber ring and pull the sponge out of the mesh cover. As soon as you turn it off, the alarm will stop. I remove the copper sticker from the top and press the sponge down with a heavy weight for about 5-7 days. At this point, the sponge becomes flat again and stays that way until the water touches it again. The important part is making sure it dries flat. Then simply reattach the copper sticker and reassemble with the rubber ring. They are ready for another use. I've done this 3 times and had no false alarms and they worked great. These are great little leak detectors.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
