Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Enhanced MSR WhisperLite: Universal Canister and Liquid Fuel Stove by Joseph Stone

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great versatile oven! But not ultra light.

A great compact oven in every way. Made in the USA. MSR/Cascade Designs is a respected company. I spoke to them about Thermarest and they were very polite. Spare parts must also be available for a long time. Looks like this stove is worthy of an expedition. It comes with a tool to service everything on site. Wherever you are, you should be able to find something that's on fire. It runs on gasoline, pure gas, kerosene or butane. He makes a very durable impression. I've only used it on a 3 day hike and that's my experience. I bought it mainly to use butane canisters (that's all I've tried so far) and a backpack. Water boils quickly and can boil over very low heat. Flame retardancy is very good. The hose coming out is too stiff and can be a bit annoying. I would prefer the stove not to move the bottle and vice versa. It fits perfectly in a bag along with a large butane canister. The weight was ok, but not super light. The heat shield is just a rolled round aluminum plate that I didn't use. I have not brought or used any additional liquid fuel parts. I think the main downside of this backpack is the weight. It's simple for what he does and he does it very well. But if you just want to boil water quickly and carry around an ultra-light backpack, there are options that are about half as light. I weighed this and all of its parts individually so you can figure out how much it will weigh in each configuration. All weights are in pounds on Hobart certified digital hospitality scales. 0.59 = Plate alone with canister valve attached. 0.19 = gas/kerosene pump 0.04 = service kit. (tools, all holes and extra o-rings) 0.03 = plastic butane bottle holder 0.07 = pocket (material bag) 0.13 = windshield 0.04 = ground heat reflector My setup with fuel weight 1, 60 lbs. (0.74 for a stove and 0.86 for a large butane canister) Yes, I would buy again. I can get something else for the windshield and I can buy a special ultra light stove for some camping trips.
