Contains Benzisothiazolinone (BIT), an isothiazolinone preservative

Both are isothiazolinones, known skin sensitizers. Methylisothiazolinone was named Allergen of the Year for 2013 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society, and benzisothiazolinone (BIT) has a similar structure. They are associated with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), and since ACD may have a delayed response, patients may not see the connection; Some may wonder why their skin itches, flakes, turns red, or does something else. Airborne contact dermatitis has even been reported in individuals exposed to water-based paints containing isothiazolinones. Isothiazolinones (chills/gagging) have been used in baby wipes, makeup removers, shampoos, sunscreens, cleansers and paints. So read the labels and learn more about your skin risks! The EU started restricting isothiazolinones a few years ago following a spike in eczema cases, but I doubt anyone has fully deciphered the potential skin damage or what else might be involved. However, manufacturers only try to protect products from the growth of bacteria or mold.
