Updated Review - NOT HAPPY

I bought this to replace the remote that came with a fan that wasn't working. This works great! If you are not locally, call an electrician or someone who can help you. I have a Harbor Breeze fan with a ceiling strap and it was a lot of work for me because the old remote receiver and all the electrical connection wires were tucked under the pole that holds the fan in the ceiling. You have to go there, because the bar prevents everything from pulling the rotating part of the device's fan. If you can but can't make a living from it, I suggest you take a picture of how the parts of the fan fit together when you take them off. I would like to have! This saves you time when picking up. Installing a new receiver is very easy - very useful paper is included with the fan and the wires are also labeled. The wires are color coded and there are wires that go FROM the house to the receiver and another set that goes from the receiver TO the fan. They put the ones for the house on the phone, on the opposite side from those that go to the fan - they helped a lot. Very important - you must select a channel - the same channel - on the remote control AND on the receiver. Otherwise it doesn't work. The remote control requires a 9 volt battery - not included. After installing the new receiver, power it on and use the remote to test the fan and light before reassembling everything to make sure it works! Once you're sure it works, change the process you used to get the base. As I'm not an electrician I haven't covered every step of disassembling and assembling the fan here, but I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect from a ceiling fan. UPDATE: The thing is shorted. within 6 months of purchase. My fan stopped working so I took it apart, unplugged the remote and plugged it back in and the fan started working. Very disappointed. What a waste of time and effort!
