I bought this to connect my Passport Max 2 to the car's electrical system. It works exactly as you would expect and provides an easy way to quickly disable the detector if it picks up random signals that don't pose a real threat. My device detects automatic doors and gives me a quick way to silence and block unwanted detections. This cable also features an indicator light that shows when the system has power and another indicator that flashes amber when something is detected. The cable itself is a bulky button and board installation inside the box that isn't as easy to hide, contradicting the style of the interior. my car. I don't like wiring all over the place, and I don't like that aftermarket items never match the look of the car, so I disassembled my SmartCord and installed it directly into the dash. What I have installed is that the cord is set to only turn on when the car is on (no accessories). Then I removed the trim from the dash where I wanted to place the buttons, measured everything and traced where each button goes. Then I drilled the necessary holes, removed the circuit board from the cable and installed it in my modified dashboard. I used epoxy to secure everything in place so nothing comes loose when I hit the mute button. I then soldered all the necessary connections back to the cable which I had to cut (to fit where I wanted). Finally I took the bezel from the original cord and glued it to my trace on the outside of the dash. It doesn't look 100% factory installed, but looks much better than the original cable.
