Place the lid handle-down on the counter without burning your hand, or place it wet-side down and make a mess on the counter, or you've cooked on the counter and haven't had one since More room to put the lid on You don't have room - not the best choice. I saw another similar product from a pot and pan manufacturer. The costs were more than double. We have heavy cast iron pans as well as pans with lighter glass and stainless steel lids, large, small, heavy and light. Decided to do it after reading the reviews. It's a great product because. 1) it can be used both as a spoon holder and as a pot and pan lid holder 2) it holds lids of different sizes regardless of weight 3) it can hold a spoon and a lid at the same time 4) the bottom does not scratch the countertop - small pads on the Bottom 5) has a small square inner plastic liner that slides out for easy cleaning. It's well balanced and you can easily lower the lid by leaning on it with an oven mitt or oven mitt. Great kitchen utensil!
