Comfortable fit (ordered medium and small to compare)

I'm 5'6/7", 135 lbs, athletic build with narrow hips/butt. Black shorts are small, purple are medium. Both are very comfortable but purple/medium suits me better I usually wear Nike running shorts but I can fit a medium size I will keep the medium and send the small back.
