was restoring his Tahoe 02 engine and everyone recommended replacing this oil seal to avoid dragging the engine again (I have a Tahoe 4wd it's easier to remove the engine than messing around with two driveshafts, a transfer case and then the actual transfer). My suggestion to anyone taking on this project is to forget the gasket remover and use the slide hammer technique. I did damage the transmission pump lip a bit, but with the new gasket it shouldn't be a big problem. The slide hammer technique works better because the aluminum body of this pump is soft (e.g. the foil is thin).
