Works right out of the box

This is one of those products that you really get what you pay for. The price is right and everything went smoothly. The screen is nice and bright. Touch works best with a stylus (included), but fingers work too. Radiators install in seconds. The software includes the Apache web server, among other features you would expect from Raspian. And you don't have to search for drivers to make the display work; they are contained on the memory card. It comes with a CD but doesn't require quick installation and running. It is highly recommended to make a copy of the micro SD card just in case. The best thing that isn't mentioned in the ad is that the HDMI output stays active. Ctrl-Alt-F2 and F4 give you two-character terminal windows that you can use for normal text-based programs like the htop and rasp-config utilities and vi for editing configuration files or HTML files. Then Ctrl-Alt-F7 reactivates the LCD (which was frozen on the terminal screen while running). Now the disadvantage: The GPIO pins are completely covered by the display. However, this is not a problem for this user as there are USB-to-Serial-to-8266 boards that allow Arduino sensors to communicate and display data on web displays. In general, working with this device is a pleasure.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Not automatic
