Review on πŸ”§ 4576 Universal C-Frame Nut Splitter by OTC by Maurice Stavros

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It really works! in Tools & Equipment

For what it is, a nut splitter that costs less than $22 is a pretty good thing. Facom splitters are probably better as you get what you pay for. I had my doubts about its open frame, but it's bulky enough and durable enough to work great. If you buy it, don't use it right away. First take it apart and lubricate it well which will make it work 5 times better. The Chinese sweatshop that makes them uses the wrong lube and not enough. To dismantle, first pull the anvil out of its holder (in the direction of the piston). DO NOT lubricate the anvil shaft. It spins too freely. Now the piston will stretch. Remove the screw. The two ball bearings should fall out immediately. Wipe the cheap grease off all of those internal parts. Since the piston has an o-ring, I lubricated it with AGS/Napa Sil-Glyde. For the screw and bearings I used a large amount of lubricating paste identical to Air Venturi Moly Metal-to-Metal Paste. The improvement was dramatic.
