Description of 🔧 4576 Universal C-Frame Nut Splitter by OTC

OTC's Universal C-Frame Nut Splitter features a forged and heat-treated frame with an offset handle that works where ordinary nut splitters may fail. It's smooth, steady action cracks nuts without damaging bolt threads. Chisel rotates to line up parallel to the nut. Splits non-heat-treated nuts of 7/16 inch (11 mm) through 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter. Conveniently sized tool is only 6-3/4 inches in length so it can fit into limited access locations.

Unsatisfied - Tools & Equipment

The anvil rotates so if you can't center the anvil on the nut the anvil will rotate and slip off. I was working on a 1/4-20 nut and could NOT keep it from slipping. Before anyone says I have no idea what I'm doing, I used to be an airplane mechanic so I think I know how to use a nutcracker.

Made from mild steel that warps easily

This nut splitter broke on first use and didn't even split the nut I used it on. It appears to be made of fairly soft steel. After one use it was so warped it didn't fit in the box it was in. My only saving grace is the fact that I used it straight away and returning it through Revain is easy.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Low repairability

Absolutely not suitable for tight spaces.

This thing is very difficult to use. I was in a kind of predicament and it was advertised as being able to work with a corner grip. Well it isn't. Finally, after an hour of trying and a few profanities, he flew 25 meters. If you can, grab a Dremel or circular saw before picking one up.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Nothing here

Did the job I needed.

I had to loosen about eight nuts on a high performance bicycle to change an axle. I read one of the reviews that recommended disassembling and properly lubricating the nut cutter. I did just that, and the splitter did its job with no issues. I am happy with the splitter and it is still in good condition for future use on other projects.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Long delivery time

It really works! in Tools & Equipment

For what it is, a nut splitter that costs less than $22 is a pretty good thing. Facom splitters are probably better as you get what you pay for. I had my doubts about its open frame, but it's bulky enough and durable enough to work great. If you buy it, don't use it right away. First take it apart and lubricate it well which will make it work 5 times better. The Chinese sweatshop that makes them uses the wrong lube and not enough. To dismantle, first pull the anvil out of its holder (in the…
