The intricate metal ball surrounding each lantern on this extra long cord has a beautiful copper hue that makes them look gorgeous day or night. As I worked, I took them off while clicking each of the modes. You can choose the power saving mode to be fast blinking, blinking, light or dark depending on your preference. Switching the backlight on and off and mode selection are controlled via two buttons on the underside of the solar panel. As soon as you turn on the cord, the lights will automatically turn on and off depending on the ambient light. As you can see from the photos and videos, the lights themselves create a beautiful warm golden glow. In addition to the solar panel and a plastic bolt that allows the panel and battery to be secured in the ground, this particular solar light kit has an additional feature. If you want these lights to run fast no matter how sunny the day, or if you want to use them indoors, you can replace the solar charger with a conventional battery power source that accepts 4 AA batteries. To switch between two different power supplies, there is a plug at one end of the rope, like Christmas tree lights; just instead of plugging it into an outlet, plug it into either a solar panel or a regular battery box. This feature allows you to leave the solar panel and its battery outside while moving the garland inside. The option of using traditional batteries is a good option as it really opens up a lot of possibilities on how and where this string of lights can be used. I am very impressed with the overall length of these string lights, their looks and the ability to use them with a solar panel or traditional batteries gives flexibility. I would consider this chain of metal balls a great investment for the price and a very cool way to add decorative outdoor and/or indoor lighting. Definitely recommend them!
