The title is a bit of a spoiler, but yes I built a garage door opener for a chamberlain and hooked up one end of the opener , and when I tried to connect the motor to the ceiling, I was missing a foot. Damned! Yes, I should have read the description better, but I hurried and assumed my garage was a standard size. Turns out 8ft isn't a standard and I didn't even think to measure before ordering. I think the only thing that needed to be done was to buy an expansion kit. Okay, fast forward, I checked ALL the Home Depots and Lowes in my state and NONE of them stocked an expansion kit. It seems to be a popular item. I went back to Revain and bought an expansion kit. Ultimately, the instructions are very clear and contain all the details you need to solve the problem I created for myself. I was glad it came with an extra compression screw as trying to re-engage the washer on the compressed grease from the original kit would be difficult. My 3 star rating is because I think the Chamberlain should offer a 7ft or 8ft option as the original. Sentence. The fact that they force you to buy an expansion kit seems silly and a way to trick you into spending more money. Looking through the reviews I'm not the first nor the last to make the same mistake. I think Chamberlain could have done better before by clarifying this or offering an 8 inch version.
