ONLY FITS IN CERTAIN J-BOXES!

The price is decent, but the thing that I truly found frustrating was at a nowhere does it tell you that the only type of box that will house this sensor is a octagon box. Originally I installed foursquare boxes with mud rings in the ceiling during the construction phase. When it came time to trim out and install the sensors, I found out the hard way that not a single mud ring will house this sensor. Not a two gang mud ring, not a single gang mud ring nor a round 4/0 mud ring.So then my next thing I was going to have to do was put blank plates on my existing boxes and install a plastic round cut in box (remodel box) but then I found out that the sensor doesn’t fit in that either. I was looking at pictures and it seems that these may fit in a plastic round 4/0 nail on box but I am not positive about that.I would just think that the designer would make these more easier to fit in common electrical boxes and common mud ring applications. I am just super surprised that it is so difficult for them to create a design that could fit in more applications with common electrical trade junction boxes. Now yes, granted they do give you the dimensions of the sensor, but for the average Electrician, we don’t just know dimensions on the top of our heads of the opening dimensions of all our j-boxes.This ended up costing me a lot of money I’m labor and it cost me a lot of headache. It would be very helpful if they would specify the type of boxes that it does fit in versus just giving dimensions. Especially since there’s only a couple boxes that this will actually fit in, it seems it would be simple for them to list those boxes. Hope this helps somebody. If you know any events, can you prepare accordingly with the proper boxes, then I don’t think you’ll have any problem. Just wanted to share this to possibly make awareness. I don’t want to wait till the trim out to figure this out. Huge mistake on my part.

Pros
  • Good sensors for the price
Cons
  • Not a very good range.
