So far, so good. Of course, it's difficult to rate a smoke alarm when you don't have a fire. This device replaced the First Alert device, only three years old, which often gave false alarms or was too sensitive to standard kitchen smoke. This fixture was very easy to mount to the ceiling in less than three minutes after I took a ladder and drilled a hole in the right place. This block is slightly smaller than First Alert and does not have the same print on the cover. So if the ceiling was painted a different color you can use some touch up paint around the base. Hopefully the battery will last the suggested 10 years. A thought on the smaller size of this device. As mentioned, on my previous first alarm I had frequent false alarms where I could barely reach the device to tiptoe to silence it. As this block is smaller I couldn't reach it without a stool/chair to stand on😁
