This was our first hand sharpener after 3 years of giving up our electric sharpener. If the tip breaks off inside the sharpener, which always happens with this sharpener and is difficult to remove, there is no physical way to get at one end of the jam. I spent over 30 minutes clearing this last jam. It just goes in the trash! I'm done! Also, the suction cup mount is very difficult to manipulate and needs to be in a position that feels best to stick to a surface. After 2-3 sharpenings, it needs to be remounted. Your surface should be a lacquered table or ceramic or other glossy mounting surface. I doubt it will even work on an unfinished or rough surface. Kids can't use this sharpener because it wiggles and wiggles meaning I hear "Moooom! Can you sharpen my pencil?!" A colossal failure for our home school class. If you buy this you will regret it.
