I'm so glad Columbia added an all penetrating down jacket this year! My son hates heavy coats and always fights back when I try to get him to carry something heavy. We have been using the Columbia Tree Time down jacket for a few years, which was light enough for my son but not warm enough for temperatures below 30°. The new down jacket is lightweight and lightweight, and warm enough. Last winter I bought one with omnidirectional heat and only had to layer it under 20°. It is very hot. I'm a little disappointed that there isn't an all-over lining on the arms. Hopefully it won't affect the heat. The hood is nice and low and you can tighten the bottom hem through the drawcords in the pockets to keep the chill out. I used the Columbia size chart to determine the size. My son is 8 years old, small for his age. I measured his chest at 26 inches. The small size fits perfectly and unless we have a major growth spurt next year should fit. Overall my son loves it and it keeps him warm. I always feel like I make good profits with Colombia. I wouldn't want to spend a fortune on something they've only been wearing for a few years. We may have found our favorite winter coat.
