Review on Zircon Leak Alert Electronic Detector by Bill Russett

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works "well " but not what I expected.

To avoid confusion, this review starts with the Zircon Leak Alert x - Smart Electronic Water Detector with a 9.8" Cable - Email, Audio, Visual Alerts, Battery Included (70745). I purchased this item because we have had an instance of basement flooding and water leakage for the last year or so. Both of these happened at night while we were sleeping and I was looking for something that would wake us up fast enough to minimize possible damage. Unfortunately this was not the right product. My main goal in writing this review is to alert others to possible product data that I didn't look closely enough - how loud the alarm is! to ignore. It's not relevant. When I tested this alarm I was surprised at how quiet it is. I seriously doubt it would be heard from another room if you're watching TV. It literally sounds like it doesn't want to bother you! Then I went back and looked at the specs and realized that these types of alarms can be found anywhere depending on how loud they are. This particular model is listed at 84 dB. I've since bought another model/brand rated >110dB and the volume is closer to what I expected. To be fair, the Zircon alarm works as advertised, although I doubt they use the term "loud" when describing the alarm. The Wi-Fi was easy to set up and I was able to set it up to send a text notification to my phone. While this is useful when we're not home, I found the alarm to sound almost useless (note: I've confirmed the battery is good and delivering the correct voltage). So yes, the alarm works, but I warn you against it. your needs and be sure to compare the dB rating of all detectors you are considering.

Pros
  • Leak Alert x sends email alerts and beeps when battery is low to keep devices running at their best.
Cons
  • Crumpled
