Review on πŸ’‘ Philips BR30 Indoor Flood Light by Ron Collins

Good value but you get what you pay for

We've lived in our home for 20 years and over half the lightbulbs in our ceilings are still working. A few years after we moved in, I replaced all of our light bulbs with halogen bulbs. It made such a big difference, the quality of the light was completely different. When I bought them I was looking for BR30 halogen bulbs and they fitted. When they arrived I replaced a burned out bulb in our ceiling and there was a noticeable difference in light quality compared to a new bulb, halogen bulbs have a distinctly bright light quality, these bulbs next to it look dim and yellow, it's very noticeable. Both bulbs are in our Philips ceiling, it took me a while to see that these bulbs are halogen free which explains the difference in light quality. As others have mentioned lettering embossed on glass is not acceptable, halogen bulbs also had lettering but Windex and a rag will remove it so it's not a problem. I feel really bad that I thought of these bulbs as I was looking for a BR30 halogen. I found another Philips halogen bulb that looks like the equivalent of the bulbs I had previously and they were great and I am returning these bulbs. I ordered 4 boxes, 3 were fine and in the fourth box all the bulbs were broken. But Revain does a great job of fixing that, so that's not the reason for my review, it's just that I'm not happy with them over halogen. We have been spoiled by the quality of the bulbs we have. Halogen bulbs cost twice as much but are worth it.

Pros
  • Smooth dimming: Philips dimmable lamps are flicker-free, quiet and tested with more dimmer switches than any other lamp on the market; These BR30 floodlight bulbs gently dim from 2700 Kelvin to a soft glow
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
