Gave this to my dad - he loves it and uses it to save from death each of the cars the family does not use regularly. Definitely recommended as a father's gift to anyone whose father is skilled and likes to maintain his cars himself. Note for those who don't know anything about cars like me. From a non-driver's point of view, this is not a portable battery (it's a lot bigger/heavier). I originally thought it would be a portable battery for emergencies when you're stranded. no This is a CHARGER. That means you plug it into the outlet and then into your car and your car battery will be charged using your home's electricity. This device does not store electricity, so you can only use it when it is connected to a power source. And yes, that's why this device is needed, because when your car batteries are dead you can't just plug it into the wall (cars don't work like that I guess), your car needs this device to act as a converter (sort of) to to get electricity from the socket. In short this is a great gift for a man who loves servicing his cars at home and I'm super happy because I bought something completely different than what I thought it would be but my dad loved it anyway! :D
