Wiring Problems

Luckily I kept the old switch and cut 3 colored wires to make connecting the new switch easier. Two problems. Zing Ear calls this new problem a Type 2 configuration where the 3 wires are numbered. Luckily, my old switch is also a type 2. There are other types, so search the internet before you buy. Worst of all I had to disassemble the old switch to determine how to insert the stripped wires as there were no instructions included. So, looking at the switch body from the black side, the stripped wires must be inserted at an angle in the direction of rotation, the ends of the wires must be counter-clockwise, and they must be pushed in. Once entered, they must stay. This carelessness is typical of mindless marketing and sales, which are so prevalent today that even with a very good product, some simple salespeople have no idea what the user might encounter later. Hope the switch works! Another criticism, I'm not a handyman, I didn't realize the wires had to be tinned with solder before they could be inserted. Since it is too difficult to remove the fan from the ceiling, today I have to stand on a ladder with solder and an iron in my hands and tin 4 wires and see with a spotlight powered from another room. Next time I'll ask Eddie the handyman to fix things like this and buy parts from Home Depot. They come with instructions.
